OR PLANNING PURPOSES: Governor Sisolak launches ‘Jobs + Workers Week’ in Nevada, celebrates economic recovery

This week, Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak, along with other State officials, will highlight “Jobs + Workers Week” in Nevada. Kicking off with International Union of Elevator Constructors International Convention, the Governor will highlight various projects throughout the week in Southern Nevada.

“Nevada’s economic recovery following the COVID-19 pandemic is laser focused on creating jobs and supporting workers,” Gov. Sisolak said. “We have made tremendous progress already and through the wise investment of federal dollars and continued collaboration between the public and private sector, we will continue to ensure our recovery efforts reach all Nevadans.”

MONDAY:

Gov. Sisolak to speak at International Union of Elevator Constructors International Convention
In Las Vegas, the Governor speak at the International Union of Elevator Constructors International Convention at Resorts World Las Vegas. The Governor will highlight Nevada’s union leadership, and the State’s plan to leverage recent Infrastructure Bank legislation to create more good-paying jobs.

TUESDAY:

Gov. Sisolak to tour Sephora Distribution Facility
In Las Vegas, the Governor will tour the Sephora Distribution Facility and hear about the multiple partnerships that were established as Sephora made the determination to move to Nevada. Sephora is committed to diversity in hiring and has a strong partnership with Vocational Rehab that has resulted in hiring multiple Nevadans with disabilities to work in their facility.
In 2018 Sephora broke ground on a 714,000 square-foot regional distribution center in North Las Vegas. This facility primarily serves Sephora clients based on the West Coast. The company chose Nevada as part of an economic incentive package from GOED and has made a commitment to create over 400 jobs.

Gov. Sisolak to join Nevada Recovers Listening Tour
Governor Sisolak will participate in a Nevada Recovers Listening Tour event focused on workforce development at the Public Education Foundation in Las Vegas. The event is part of the State’s plan to solicit feedback on how best to invest federal recovery dollars.

Gov. Sisolak to speak at United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce National Conference
In Las Vegas, the Governor speak at the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce National Conference at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. The Governor will highlight Nevada’s union leadership

WEDNESDAY:

Gov. Sisolak to join Labor Roundtable with AFL-CIO
Governor Sisolak will participate in a Nevada Recovers Listening Tour event focused on labor unions at the AFL-CIO in Las Vegas. The event is part of the State’s plan to solicit feedback on how best to invest federal recovery dollars.

Gov. Sisolak to tour Sunshine Minting
The Governor will tour Sunshine Minting which supplies precious metal products and is known for supplying silver planchets to the United States Mint and for manufacturing coins and bullion for other national mints. The Governor will tour the facility, meet a digital artist, see the full manufacturing process and stamp a special bar that is being made for the occasion.
Sunshine Minting currently has a 142,000 sq. ft. minting facility. They are looking to expand their existing Nevada footprint and relocate all their corporate, administrative, and operational functions as well to create a new corporate home for the company. Sunshine Minting currently employs 125 people in Southern Nevada and with this expansion would hire an additional 75 to 100 employees over the next 24 months with an average hourly wage of $21.38. Their current capital investment in Nevada is $3,162,500.

THURSDAY:

Gov. Sisolak to tour GeoTab
The Governor will visit GeoTab, a logistics technology company that creates fleet management software and GPS vehicle tracking devices that are used to track thousands of vehicles. The company is working to align with the State’s environmental and economic priorities. The Governor will participate in a demonstration of the technology.
GeoTab was founded in 2000 and came to Las Vegas in 2016. The company currently employs 359 Nevadans at an average wage of $27.10 per hour. The company has a capital investment of $1,722,500 in Nevada. The company as a whole has more than 2 million subscribers, more than 10 locations worldwide, and logs more than 140 million miles that are driven daily by GeoTab-connected vehicles.
