
EXECUTIVE ORDER 2020-21
ORDERING FLAGS TO HALF STAFF IN RECOGNITION OF NATIONAL PEARL HARABOR REMEMBRANCE DAY
WHEREAS, on the morning of December 7, 1941, the Empire of Japan launched an attack on the U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor;
WHEREAS, 2,403 American service members and 68 civilians tragically lost their lives during the attack on Pearl Harbor;
WHEREAS, the Congress of the United States, by Public Law 103-308, as amended, has designated December 7 of each year as 'National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day;'
WHEREAS, Nevadans remember the tragic events of that fateful day and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our nation;
WHEREAS, Article 5, Section 1 of the Nevada Constitution provides: "The supreme executive power of this State, shall be vested in a Chief Magistrate who shall be Governor of the State of Nevada;"
NOW, THEREFORE, by the authority vested in me as Governor by the Constitution and laws of the State of Nevada and the United States, and pursuant to the Proclamation issued by President Donald J. Trump on December 6, 2020, it is hereby ordered as follows:
The flags of the United States and the State of Nevada shall be flown at half-staff at the State Capitol and all state public buildings and grounds from sunrise to sunset on Monday, December 7, 2020, in honor of the individuals who perished as a result of their service at Pearl Harbor.
