WHEREAS, the Community Development Block Grant Program has operated since 1974 to provide local governments with the resources to support community development activities to build stronger and more resilient communities; and

WHEREAS, the Community Development Block Grant Program is among the few remaining federal programs available to address the needs of low and moderate income persons and small cities; and

WHEREAS, the Community Development Block Grant Program has provided the State of Nevada with timely and flexible assistance to meet the needs and future needs of residents by funding sewer, water, and street improvements projects, economic development projects, public facilities installation, community centers, housing rehabilitation, public services, clearance / acquisition, microenterprise assistance, code enforcement, and homeowner assistance; and

WHEREAS, last year approximately $2.9 million in Community Development Block Grant funds were awarded in the Silver State to fund projects for rural communities; and

WHEREAS, the Silver State acknowledges the critical value of the Community Development Block Grant Program and the significant projects that rely on its funds for support to create and maintain integral projects in our communities; and

WHEREAS, the citizens of Nevada benefit greatly from the investments delivered by the Community Development Block Grant Program and we recognize that investments in our communities are direct investments in our citizens and our State's future; and

WHEREAS, the month of April 2024, has been reserved for recognition and appreciation of the Community Development Block Grant Program;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOE LOMBARDO, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the month of April 2024 as

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT MONTH IN NEVADA
