WHEREAS, school social workers serve as important members of the educational team, playing a central role in creating a positive school climate; and

WHEREAS, school social workers are especially skilled in identifying and providing services to students who face serious challenges to school success, such as poverty, disability, discrimination, abuse, addiction, bullying, or loss of a loved one; and

WHEREAS, school social workers advocate for schools, families and youth in the legislative arena by supporting proposals to promote positive school climate, prevent bullying, improve programs for at-risk youth, and support the academic success of all students; and

WHEREAS, school social workers are Specialized Instructional Support Personnel, working with students and their families ensuring that our youth feel supported and that they have the services they need to succeed inside and outside the classroom; and

WHEREAS, School Social Work Week provides an opportunity to bring public awareness to the unique contributions of school social workers within the Nevada school system, and highlight the important impact they have on students across the Silver State;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the week of March 1-7, 2020 as

SCHOOL SOCIAL WORK WEEK IN NEVADA
