WHEREAS, the World Human Powered Speed Challenge, a competition that brings the world’s fastest bicycles and cyclists together in Battle Mountain, is celebrating its 20th anniversary; and

WHEREAS, Battle Mountain is the only location this event can take place, offering a unique opportunity to set a world record on State Route 305; and

WHEREAS, the World Human Powered Speed Challenge unites maximum athletic power, high-level aerodynamics, and engineering to produce incredibly fast speeds, which have reached up to 89.65 miles per hour; and

WHEREAS, in keeping with Nevada’s dedication to promoting outdoor adventure and recreational activities, the World Human Powered Speed Challenge is an important contributor to Lander County’s tourism-based economy, and we welcome the participants and their families to this event;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the week of September 8 – 14, 2019, as

WORLD HUMAN POWERED SPEED CHALLENGE WEEK
