WHEREAS, travel is an important industry to the State of Nevada as well as the nation’s economic prosperity, while impacting business productivity; and

WHEREAS, travel to and within the United States provides significant economic benefits for the nation, generating more than $2.5 trillion in economic output in 2018 and nearly $1 trillion were spent directly by travelers; and

WHEREAS, travel is among the largest private-sector employers in the U.S., supporting 15.7 million jobs, including 8.9 million jobs directly in the travel industry and 6.8 million in other industries; and

WHEREAS, spending in travel directly generated tax revenue of $171 billion for federal, state and local governments, which are used to support essential services and programs; and

WHEREAS, travel continues to increase in the Silver State with a record-breaking 56.5 million visitors in 2018, supporting approximately 463,000 jobs and generating $21 billion in income for Nevada’s residents; and

WHEREAS, welcoming visitors from near and far has always been, and will remain, the enduring ethos of the travel industry in Nevada and this month provides an opportunity for Nevadans across the state to recognize and celebrate this important industry;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the week of May 5-11, 2019 as

TRAVEL AND TOURISM WEEK IN NEVADA
