WHEREAS, Suicide Prevention Week is dedicated to the role everyone in our community can play in preventing suicide, and all community members are encouraged to know the signs, find the words, and reach out to someone they are concerned about; and

WHEREAS, suicide is a public health issue in our community, and each death by suicide directly impacts numerous family members, friends, coworkers, loved ones, and often the entire community; and

WHEREAS, the State of Nevada is committed to promoting the Zero Suicide framework, a system-wide organizational commitment to safer suicide care in health and behavioral health care systems; and

WHEREAS, suicide prevention requires a comprehensive, multi-level approach, encompassing strategies for prevention, early intervention, treatment, and postvention after a death has occurred; and

WHEREAS, the Nevada Office of Suicide Prevention, in partnership with countless community agencies and organizations, is dedicated to sharing suicide prevention and wellness activities with the community, and this year’s theme is ‘Connectiveness Matters: Integrating Systems to Promote Connectedness;’ and

WHEREAS, the Nevada Coalition for Suicide Prevention will be celebrating its 13th annual statewide ‘Walk in Memory, Walk for Hope’ event on Saturday, September 14th, 2019, with ten communities walking to remember those individuals we have lost to suicide and call greater attention to the state’s suicide prevention efforts; and

WHEREAS, Suicide Prevention Week provides the opportunity to educate our community about warning signs and how best to help those most in need;
