
WHEREAS, sarcoidosis is a multi-organ, inflammatory disease affecting people of all backgrounds; and
WHEREAS, the signs and symptoms of sarcoidosis vary widely depending on the person and it can affect almost any organ in the body, including the lungs, heart, skin, liver, kidneys, and many other areas; and
WHEREAS, according to the American Lung Association, sarcoidosis is most common among adults between the ages of 20 and 40 and occurs more often in African Americans who may experience more severe symptoms; and
WHEREAS, while some progress has been made in understanding sarcoidosis symptoms and diagnosis, there is no known cause for the disease, emphasizing the importance for continued research and education; and
WHEREAS, during Sarcoidosis Awareness Month, we raise awareness and support the efforts of volunteers, researchers, caregivers, and medical professionals who are working to improve the quality of life and prognosis of persons living with sarcoidosis and their families;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim April 2019 as
SARCOIDOSIS AWARENESS MONTH IN NEVADA
