Seal of the State of Nevada

WHEREAS, Nevada’s public lands are an outdoor enthusiast’s paradise, featuring premier recreational opportunities, epic stories, historic treasures, off-road adventures, as well as providing habitat for more than 300 native species that live exclusively in Nevada and cannot be found anywhere else in the world; and

WHEREAS, public lands protect vital pieces of our region’s past and important cultural heritage, including more than 110,000 historic and cultural resources recognized throughout the state, and 424 iconic buildings/archaeological sites listed on the National Register of Historic Places, all waiting to be discovered by current and future generations of Nevadans and all who visit this great state; and

WHEREAS, in 2018, a record-breaking 3.6 million people visited Nevada’s State Parks, and with a myriad of recreational opportunities – including camping, boating, fishing, hiking, exploring historic sites, and easy access to over 50,000 miles of off-highway vehicle trails – Nevada’s State Parks offer memorable experiences for all to enjoy; and

WHEREAS, Nevada’s booming outdoor industry generates $12.6 billion a year for Nevada’s economy and supports approximately 87,000 jobs; and

WHEREAS, Nevada is the most recent state to establish a new Division of Outdoor Recreation, within the Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, to help promote outdoor recreation and tourism, support a vibrant and sustainable recreation economy, attract new recreation-oriented businesses, encourage outdoor recreation as a tool for public health and meet the needs of underserved regions and populations, and foster a new generation of public land stewards in all parts of Nevada; and

WHEREAS, the residents of Nevada support efforts to promote stewardship and celebrate these irreplaceable natural, cultural, and recreational treasures; and

WHEREAS, on Saturday, September 28, 2019, Nevada State Parks fees, including entrance, camping (Saturday night) and boating, where applicable, will be waived at all state parks throughout Nevada;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim September 28, 2019, as

PUBLIC LANDS DAY IN NEVADA
