WHEREAS, established by the United States Congress in 1961, the National Poison Prevention Week is commissioned by the National Poison Prevention Week Council; and

WHEREAS, Poison Prevention Week focuses national and local attention on the dangers of poisonings and how to prevent them; and

WHEREAS, this week provides an opportunity to educate our communities on poison prevention, and pledge our commitment to ensuring the safety of our fellow Nevadans; and

WHEREAS, each year, more than 15,000 possible poisonings are reported in the State of Nevada to the Nevada Poison Center; and

WHEREAS, poison prevention can include placing household chemicals out of the reach of children, storing items in their original containers to avoid confusion, and reading product labels including the recommended dosage; and

WHEREAS, to prevent poisonings, parents, teachers, nurses, and community members should take measures to ensure that unintentional poisonings do not occur and take precautions to understand medication safety;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the week of March 17 – 23, 2019, as
