Seal of the State of Nevada

WHEREAS, approximately 500,000 babies are admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) each year, according to the National Perinatal Association; and

WHEREAS, many NICU babies have special needs that last longer than their NICU stay, with many families of these babies struggling to find resources, support, and education; and

WHEREAS, neonatal intensive care units have the ability to treat conditions such as complications of prematurity, birth anomalies, brain injury, cardiac conditions, infection, jaundice, Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) and respiratory distress, and funding for research into the causes of a NICU stay, as well as the holistic care of NICU families, is vital; and

WHEREAS, Neonatal Intensive Care Awareness Day provides an opportunity for families to share their stories, recognize dedicated healthcare professionals and provide visibility to research that improves the quality of life for NICU babies and their parents;
