Seal of the State of Nevada

WHEREAS, myasthenia gravis is a chronic auto-immune neuromuscular disease that is characterized by fluctuating weakness of the voluntary muscle groups with ‘grave muscular weakness’; and

WHEREAS, approximately 20 in 100,000 people are affected by myasthenia gravis in the United States, according to the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America; and

WHEREAS, common symptoms can include a drooping eyelid, blurred or double vision, slurred speech, difficulty chewing and swallowing, weakness in the arms and legs, chronic muscle fatigue, and difficulty breathing, and the weakness tends to increase with continued activity and can be improved with periods of rest; and

WHEREAS, Myasthenia Gravis Awareness Month as a time to educate the community and raise awareness for this neuromuscular disease that has no known cure;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim June 2019 as

MYASTHENIA GRAVIS AWARENESS MONTH IN NEVADA
