Seal of the State of Nevada

WHEREAS, Nevada’s climate and scenery make motorcycle riding an attraction for citizens and visitors across the Battle Born State, and riders consider our roadways to be some of the nation’s best for riding; and

WHEREAS, the motorcycle is an important form of transportation for commuting, touring and recreation; and

WHEREAS, motorcycles are an energy-efficient vehicle that reduces fuel consumption, traffic and parking congestion; and

WHEREAS, it is important to reduce the number of fatalities and crashes associated with motorcycling by encouraging motorcycle operators to participate in rider education programs, wear the proper protective apparel, ride without impairment from drugs and/or alcohol, and operate their vehicle defensively according to the rules of the road; and

WHEREAS, to prevent injury and death on Nevada’s roadways, motorcyclists and motorists must be vigilant in their efforts to share the road, ensuring the safety of everyone and to reach the goal of zero fatalities; and

WHEREAS, the State of Nevada encourages motorcycle enthusiasts, clubs, dealerships, organizations and local law enforcement officials to join in actively promoting safe operation, increased rider training, and motorist awareness;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim May 2019 as

MOTORCYCLE SAFETY AWARENESS MONTH IN NEVADA
