WHEREAS, health disparities are defined as significant differences between one population and another in relation to the overall rate of disease incidence, prevalence, morbidity, mortality or survival rates; and

WHEREAS, health equity is an opportunity for all Nevadans to achieve their full health potential, with no one at a disadvantage because of socially determined circumstances; and

WHEREAS, all communities deserve knowledge of, and access to, quality health care; and

WHEREAS, the Nevada Office of Minority Health and Equity strives to validate deleterious experiences, stimulate more inclusive research and development protocols and increase participation in clinical trials taking place in the Silver State; and

WHEREAS, the Nevada Office of Minority Health and Equity, working with its advisory committee and in partnership with various organizations, strives to influence policy, programming, education and funding to promote the institutionalization of health equity as means to end disparities;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim April 2019 as

MINORITY HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH IN NEVADA
