WHEREAS, massage therapy is beneficial to overall health, with 59 percent of adults in the United States receiving a massage between 2016-2017 for medical or health reasons, such as pain management, soreness, stiffness, spasms, injury rehabilitation and overall wellness, according to the American Massage Therapy Association; and

WHEREAS, massage therapy has become an important part of work-related stress relief and recovery from sports-related injuries; and

WHEREAS, therapeutic massages can boost the body’s immune system and benefit people of all ages by decreasing or reducing fibromyalgia, stress, back pain, muscle injury, pain in cancer patients and/or related fatigue, arthritis, osteoarthritis of the knee, post-operative pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, blood pressure, headache frequency, alcohol withdrawal symptoms; and

WHEREAS, Massage Therapy Awareness Week provides an opportunity to raise public awareness of the potential benefits of massage therapy;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the week of October 22 -28, 2019, as

MASSAGE THERAPY AWARENESS WEEK IN NEVADA
