WHEREAS, geology and the other Earth Sciences are fundamental to the safety, health, and well-being of Nevadans and economy of the Silver State; and

WHEREAS, the Earth Sciences are integral to discovering, developing, and conserving mineral, energy, and water resources needed for Nevada's continuing prosperity; and

WHEREAS, the Earth Sciences provide the basis that helps Nevadans prepare for and mitigate natural hazards, such as earthquakes, wildfires, floods, landslides, expansive soils, and subsidence; and

WHEREAS, the Earth Sciences and knowledge of geological resources and environments are crucial to environmental and ecological issues including water quality, air quality, waste disposal, climate change, invasive species, land management, water supply, and protection of Nevada’s native species and diverse habitats; and

WHEREAS, the Earth Sciences give us a better understanding and respect for nature, and are an integral part of education for students all across the Silver State;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the week of October 13 – 19, 2019, as
