WHEREAS,  domestic violence violates an individual’s privacy, dignity, security, and humanity due to the use of physical, emotional, sexual and psychological abuse, and economic control; and

WHEREAS,  the impact of domestic violence directly affects our society across all economic, racial, and societal barriers, and prevention is essential to ending this harmful cycle; and

WHEREAS,  victims of domestic violence exhibit tremendous courage and resilience, but still face significant barriers escaping their perpetrator; and

WHEREAS,  advocacy networks across Nevada have worked and will continue to work tirelessly on behalf of victims and remain dedicated to providing a voice for victims and families, while increasing awareness across the Silver State; and

WHEREAS,  October is a time to remember and honor all victims, as well as raise awareness to help prevent domestic violence;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim October 2019 as

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH IN NEVADA
