WHEREAS, the State of Nevada joins with local law enforcement, victims’ advocacy groups and assistance organizations, and the Office of Victims of Crime, U.S. Department of Justice, to call for support for victims of crimes; and

WHEREAS, this year’s theme, ‘Honoring Our Past, Creating Hope for the Future’ celebrates the progress made by those before us as we look to a future of crime victim services that is more inclusive, accessible, and trauma-informed; and

WHEREAS, Crime Victims’ Rights Week serves to recognize the needs of crime victims and the importance of securing their voice and rights; and

WHEREAS, approximately 95,000 cases of index crimes, including murder, rape, robbery, serious property crimes, and more, were investigated by Nevada law enforcement agencies in 2017 according to State of Nevada Uniform Crime Reporting; and

WHEREAS, victims of crime should always be treated with fairness, dignity and respect throughout the criminal justice process and with the unwavering support of their communities and victim service providers behind them; and

WHEREAS, the State of Nevada stands with states nationwide to proclaim Crime Victims’ Rights Week, and recognize the importance of protections for victims of crime;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the week of April 7 – 13, 2019, as

CRIME VICTIMS’ RIGHTS WEEK IN NEVADA
