WHEREAS, colorectal cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer death affecting both men and women in the United States according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; and

WHEREAS, according to the American Cancer Society, one in twenty men and one in twenty-four women will be diagnosed with colorectal cancer in their lifetime; and

WHEREAS, if people in the United States age 50 and older were screened regularly for colorectal cancer, nearly half of all cases could be preventable; and

WHEREAS, it is critical that all people, of all ages, know the signs and symptoms of the disease; and

WHEREAS, Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month provides an opportunity to educate all Nevadans on the importance of early detection and screening;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim March 2019 as

Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month
