WHEREAS, addressing the complex mental health needs of children, youth, and families is fundamental to the future of Nevada as one in five families are affected by children’s mental health issues; and

WHEREAS, our communities have an important responsibility to provide comprehensive, coordinated mental health services for children, youth, and families; and

WHEREAS, this year’s theme, ‘Suicide Prevention: Strategies That Work’, focuses on the impact that suicide has on children, youth, and families, encouraging the use of evidence-based strategies to connect those in need to information, services, and supports that can save lives; and

WHEREAS, citizens, agencies, and organizations across our state are making great efforts to provide mental health services to our most vulnerable population, and the State of Nevada thanks them for the important contributions they are making to our communities; and

WHEREAS, Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day provides an opportunity to raise public awareness of the need for more mental health services for our children, youth, and families while recognizing the hard work already being done on behalf of this population to provide these services;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim May 9, 2019 as

CHILDREN’S MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS DAY IN NEVADA
