WHEREAS, Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) is a challenging speech disorder which causes children to have significant difficulty learning to speak, and is among one of the most severe speech deficits in children; and

WHEREAS, the act of learning to speak comes effortlessly to most children, however those with Apraxia endure a difficult and lengthy struggle; and

WHEREAS, without appropriate speech therapy interventions, children with Apraxia are placed at high risk for negative secondary impacts in areas such as reading, writing, spelling and other skills; and

WHEREAS, most children with CAS will learn to communicate only if they receive early intervention and appropriate, intensive, and frequent speech therapy; and

WHEREAS, the State of Nevada encourages community members, physicians, education professionals, policy makers, and insurance providers to recognize the critical need for adequate speech therapy and other services to minimize the impact of this disorder on affected children;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim May 14, 2019 as

CHILDHOOD APRAXIA OF SPEECH DAY IN NEVADA
