WHEREAS, commuters who travel by bicycle employ a clean, quiet, and efficient mode of transportation while reducing harmful exhaust pollutants, improving air quality, and saving on fuel and maintenance costs associated with driving to work or school; and

WHEREAS, the promotion of bicycling as an alternative form of transportation will educate our communities on diverse transportation options, attract bicycling tourism, and contribute to the safety of bicyclists by making drivers more aware of their presence on the roads; and

WHEREAS, creating bicycle-friendly communities improves quality of life by fostering community spirit, improving traffic safety, and stimulating economic growth; and

WHEREAS, bicycle infrastructure in Nevada offers great potential and opportunity to positively impact our recreation and tourism industry by making the State attractive to residents, visitors, and new businesses who enjoy healthy lifestyles and the outdoors; and

WHEREAS, the State of Nevada encourages cyclists to observe all safety measures, including wearing a helmet, obeying traffic laws, and safely operating bicycles while sharing the roads with motor vehicles to ensure the wellbeing and respect of all users on Nevada roadways;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim May 2019 as

BIKE MONTH IN NEVADA
