
WHEREAS, the purpose of archives and records repositories in the State of Nevada is to preserve the state's documentary heritage for present and future generations; and
WHEREAS, archives collect government records, photographs, maps, film, oral recordings, manuscripts, journals, electronic media, and other materials contributing to Nevada's history; and
WHEREAS, archives have the responsibility to provide the public with access to records to ensure transparency in government; and
WHEREAS, the State Archives serves as the institutional memory that preserves records for the continuity of government and provides the maintenance of rights and entitlements for the state and its citizens; and
WHEREAS, the theme for Nevada Archives Month 2019 is ‘Department of Corrections in State History’, and this month provides an opportunity for Nevadans to explore their history through our documentary heritage;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim October 2019 as
ARCHIVES MONTH
