WHEREAS, Edith Buckley was born on August 22, 1919, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to William and Mary Jane Chilton, at a time when women did not have the right to vote; and

WHEREAS, Edith and her siblings grew up in Philadelphia during the Great Depression, and from a young age she enjoyed life and was known as a troublemaker in the family; and

WHEREAS, Edith married Joseph ‘Buck’ Buckley, who she met during WWII, having four wonderful children, and becoming grandparents to three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Edith’s daughter, Barbara Buckley, served the Nevada State Assembly honorably and became the First Female Assembly Speaker serving from 2007-2011; and

WHEREAS, Edith never met a person who did not become a friend, whether in her employment, her neighborhood, or playing canasta, pinochle, or bridge; and

WHEREAS, the State of Nevada offers Edith Buckley best wishes on her 100th birthday and joins her in celebrating this special occasion along with friends and family;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE SISOLAK, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim August 22, 2019 as a day in honor of
