Governor Sisolak Orders Flags to Half-Staff in Honor of the Victims of the Tragedy in Las Vegas on October 1, 2017

Today, by executive order, Governor Steve Sisolak ordered the flags of the United States and the State of Nevada to be flown at half-staff at the State Capitol and all State public buildings and grounds from sunrise to sunset on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 in remembrance and honor of the lives lost in the tragic shooting that occurred in Las Vegas on October 1, 2017

EXECUTIVE ORDER 2019-16

ORDERING FLAGS TO HALF-STAFF

HONORING THE VICTIMS OF THE TRAGEDY IN LAS VEGAS

WHEREAS, on October 1, 2017 terrible acts of violence were perpetrated in Las Vegas during the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival, killing 58 victims and injuring hundreds more;

WHEREAS, against the backdrop of senseless tragedy, citizens of the State of Nevada united in solidarity and gave meaning to the mantra “Vegas Strong” by demonstrating their extraordinary spirit of strength, compassion, and courage;

WHEREAS, Nevadans mourn with the friends, family, and loved ones of the victims who were killed in the devastating attack and share the sorrow of those suffering from physical and emotional scars in its aftermath;

WHEREAS, we remember and honor the members of law enforcement organizations, first responders, and individuals from all walks of life who provided aid and assistance in countless ways during our time of need;

WHEREAS, through our grief, we reflect on the outpouring of kindness and support received from fellow Americans and communities worldwide, and we express our heartfelt gratitude to all those who helped us become “Vegas Stronger”; and

WHEREAS, Article 5, Section 1 of the Nevada Constitution provides that, “The supreme executive power of this State, shall be vested in a Chief Magistrate who shall be Governor of the State of Nevada.”

  The flags of the United States and the State of Nevada shall be flown at half-staff at the State Capitol and all State public buildings and grounds from sunrise to sunset on October 1, 2019 in remembrance and honor of the lives lost in the tragic shooting that occurred in Las Vegas on October 1, 2017.  

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of Nevada to be affixed at the State Capitol in Carson City, this 30th day of September, in the year two thousand nineteen.
