Today, Governor Steve Sisolak announced that he has appointed Deonne Contine to serve as director of the Department of Administration, effective Monday, February 25th. Outgoing director Patrick Cates’ last day will be Friday, February 22nd.
“Deonne brings a long and distinguished career in public service to the Department of Administration, and I am thrilled to have her join my cabinet,” Governor Sisolak said. “I look forward to working with Deonne to ensure our state executive branch runs smoothly and efficiently.”
Deonne has over 12 years’ experience in public service, most recently as the executive director of the Nevada Department of Taxation. Deonne’s leadership of the Department coincided with the implementation of the Commerce Tax, which has added hundreds of millions of dollars to education funding in Nevada. From 2007-2012, Deonne was a deputy in the Nevada Attorney General’s office where she served as legal counsel to, among others, the Public Employee’s Benefits program, boards and commissions related to real estate regulation, the Department of Business and Industry, and the Department of Taxation. During her tenure at the Attorney General’s office, she won three cases before the Nevada Supreme Court in which she obtained reversals of District Court decisions that were issued against her clients.
Deonne obtained her undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley and her Juris Doctorate from the William S. Boyd School of Law at UNLV. She was born and raised in Las Vegas.
