Today, Governor Steve Sisolak announced the appointment of Cristina Silva of Las Vegas to the Eighth Judicial District Court, Department Nine. Silva currently serves as chief of the criminal division in the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Nevada.
“Cristina has a strong track record of pursuing justice with compassion and integrity,” Governor Sisolak said. “I am confident that she will make an excellent addition to the bench in the Eighth Judicial District Court.”
Since 2011, Silva has worked in the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Nevada and currently serves as chief of the criminal division. In this role, Silva supervises all criminal investigations and prosecutions brought by the U.S. Attorney’s Office throughout the state. Her caseload includes numerous complex investigations and prosecutions involving a wide range of federal criminal violations, including investigation and prosecutions of organized crime, criminal street gangs, violent crimes, child exploitation, civil rights violations, and complex frauds and cybercrimes. Previously, Silva worked as the assistant chief of litigation in the domestic violence unit in the Miami Dade State Attorney’s Office in Miami, FL.
Silva is a 2019 Hispanic National Bar Association Top Lawyer Under 40 awardee. Silva was admitted to the Nevada Bar in 2015. She earned her Juris Doctor from the American University Washington College of Law in Washington, DC and her Bachelor of Arts in political science and Spanish from Wellesley College in Wellesley, MA.
