EXECUTIVE ORDER 2020-05

ORDERING FLAGS TO HALF STAFF

WHEREAS, the men and women who serve as law enforcement officers in the State of Nevada and throughout the United States put their lives on the line every day to keep the peace, enforce our laws, and provide help in times of emergency and crisis; and

WHEREAS, on October 1, 1962, the 87th Congress passed a House Joint Resolution authorizing the President to proclaim May 15 of each year as Peace Officers Memorial Day; and

WHEREAS, United States Public Law 103-322 directs that the flag of the United States shall be flown on all United States Government buildings at half-staff on May 15 of each year in observation of Peace Officers Memorial Day; and

WHEREAS, I, Governor Steve Sisolak, have proclaimed May 7, 2020 as Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Day in Nevada; and

WHEREAS, Article 5, Section 1 of the Nevada Constitution provides: "The supreme executive power of this State, shall be vested in a Chief Magistrate who shall be Governor of the State of Nevada":

NOW, THEREFORE, by the authority vested in me as Governor by the Constitution and laws of the State of Nevada and the United States, it is hereby ordered as follows:

Executive Order 2020-05
SECTION 1: The flags of the United States and the State of Nevada shall be flown at half-staff at the State Capitol and all state public buildings and grounds on Thursday, May 7, 2020, from sunrise to sunset, in observation of Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Day in Nevada, in honor of all law enforcement officers who serve the State of Nevada, and to remember those who have been killed in the line of duty in service to the State of Nevada.
SECTION 2:  The flags of the United States and the State of Nevada shall be flown at half-staff at the State Capitol and all state public buildings and grounds on Friday, May 15, 2020, from sunrise to sunset, in observation of national Peace Officers Memorial Day, in honor of all law enforcement officers, and to remember those who have been killed in the line of duty in the State of Nevada and throughout the United States.
