WHEREAS, travel has a positive effect on the State of Nevada, drives the nation’s economic prosperity and shapes its image abroad, and also positively impacts business productivity and individual travelers’ well-being; and

WHEREAS, the tourism industry is Nevada’s leading economic driver, supporting more than 391,000 jobs for residents of Southern Nevada and approximately 475,000 statewide, and generating approximately $65 billion for our economy with nearly $59 billion generated in Clark County alone; and

WHEREAS, more than $23 billion in wages and salaries support families and individuals in Nevada; and

WHEREAS, more than 56 million people from domestic and international markets visited Nevada in 2017; and

WHEREAS, room tax paid by tourists supports schools, teachers, parks, roads and economic development throughout the Silver State; and

WHEREAS, from Lake Tahoe to Las Vegas to Elko, the Silver State is a world class destination no matter what corner of the state you are in, and Nevada is a better place to live because of tourism;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BRIAN SANDOVAL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim  the week of May 6 - 12, 2018 as

 Travel and Tourism Week in Nevada
