WHEREAS, Stevens - Johnson syndrome, sometimes known as Toxic Necrolysis, is a severe adverse reaction to medication which can cause painful blistering of the skin and mucous membrane; and

WHEREAS, many medications, including over the counter medications, can cause Stevens - Johnson syndrome; and

WHEREAS, Stevens - Johnson syndrome affects people of all ages with a large number of victims affected being children; and

WHEREAS, recognizing the early symptoms of Stevens - Johnson syndrome and prompt medical attention are the most invaluable tools in minimizing the possible long-term effects Stevens - Johnson Syndrome may have on its victims; and

WHEREAS, the health and safety of our citizens is of utmost importance and the State of Nevada is committed to raising awareness and supporting all efforts to minimize the effects of life-threatening diseases such as Stevens - Johnson Syndrome;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BRIAN SANDOVAL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim  the month of August 2018 as

 Stevens - Johnson Syndrome Awareness Month in Nevada
