WHEREAS, individuals and organizations across the Silver State are taking a stand against sexual violence; and
WHEREAS, sexual assault occurs in all communities, is rooted in power and control, and includes all unwanted sexual contact; and
WHEREAS, sexual violence affects people regardless of age, race, ethnicity, family or relationship status, profession, income level, disability status, religion, gender or sexual orientation; and
WHEREAS, the crime of sexual assault violates an individual’s privacy, dignity, security and humanity, and a victim is never to blame, regardless of the circumstances; and
WHEREAS, the impact of sexual assault is wide ranging and is a manifestation of power imbalances and inequities; and
WHEREAS, sexual assault can have a long-lasting emotional and physical impact, however, victims show incredible resilience and strength; and
WHEREAS, programs serving victims in Nevada should be honored and celebrated for their tireless efforts; and
WHEREAS, the month of April is an opportunity to participate in activities and programs working toward the elimination of sexual assault;
