WHEREAS, established by the U.S. Congress in 1961, National Poison Prevention Week is commissioned by the National Poison Prevention Week Council; and

WHEREAS, Poison Prevention Week focuses attention on the dangers of poisonings and how to prevent them; and

WHEREAS, during this week, we come together to educate ourselves on poison prevention, and pledge our commitment to ensuring the safety of our families and communities; and

WHEREAS, each year, more than 15,000 possible poisonings in the State of Nevada are reported to the Nevada Poison Center, and one call every 13 seconds is handled across the United States with a total of more than 4 million calls yearly; and

WHEREAS, a few ways to prevent a poisoning from happening include placing household chemicals out of the reach of children, storing items in their original containers to avoid confusion and reading product labels, including the recommended dosages; and

WHEREAS, to prevent poisonings, parents, teachers, nurses and everyone in the community should take measures to ensure that unintentional poisonings do not occur and take precautions to understand medication safety;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BRIAN SANDOVAL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim  the week of March 18-24, 2018 as

 POISON PREVENTION WEEK IN NEVADA
