WHEREAS, every student in the Silver State deserves access to a high-quality education, and a key component of education reform in Nevada includes empowering families to make the best educational choices for their young learners; and
WHEREAS, citizens across Nevada agree that continuing to improve the quality of education is an issue of importance to our state as we work to build the new Nevada; and
WHEREAS, the State of Nevada recognizes the essential role an effective and accountable system of education plays in preparing students for success in the classroom and beyond, as well as the role that public schools, private schools, charter schools and home-based instruction play in effective education delivery; and
WHEREAS, Nevada has many high-quality, dedicated teaching professionals in all types of education environments, and it is important for parents in Nevada to explore and identify the best education options available to their children; and
WHEREAS, the Silver State is home to a variety of educational opportunities for our students and about 4 percent of Nevada students attend private school and many others utilize opportunities to attend charter schools, online or home-based instruction; and
WHEREAS, Nevada remains committed to offering meaningful school choice opportunities to all students and through the 2017 Session of the Nevada Legislature funding was increased by $20 million for the Opportunity Scholarship Program so that every child, in every zip code, has the chance to succeed; and
WHEREAS, School Choice Week is a national celebration recognized by students, parents, educators, schools, and community leaders,for the purpose of raising public awareness of the importance of effective education options for children;
