WHEREAS, internationally, the month of June is designated as Myasthenia awareness month; and

WHEREAS, Myasthenia Gravis is a chronic auto-immune neuromuscular disease that is characterized by fluctuating weakness of the voluntary muscle groups with ‘grave muscular weakness;’ and

WHEREAS, common symptoms can include a drooping eyelid, blurred or double vision, slurred speech, difficulty chewing and swallowing, weakness in the arms and legs, chronic muscle fatigue and difficulty breathing, and the weakness tends to increase with continued activity and can be improved with periods of rest, however not everyone will display all symptoms, and symptoms can fluctuate; and

WHEREAS, Myasthenia Gravis is so rare that approximately 80,000 people have been documented in the United States; and

WHEREAS, the month of June has been designated as a time to educate the community and raise awareness for this disease that currently has no known cure;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BRIAN SANDOVAL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim  June 2018 as

 Myasthenia Gravis Awareness Month in Nevada
