WHEREAS, mental health is an essential part of overall health and communities statewide must work to increase suicide prevention and mental health care, by reducing the stigma of seeking care; and

WHEREAS, it is essential to eliminate disparities in mental health by promoting well-being for all, regardless of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, language, place of residence or age, and ensure equity of access, delivery of services and improvement of outcomes; and

WHEREAS, through public and private partnerships, we can work to reduce barriers to access and improve community outreach and engagement and ensure culturally and linguistically competent care to diverse communities in the Silver State; and

WHEREAS, the month of July is a time to educate communities and encourage individuals to learn about mental health screening, assessment and opportunities for referral to treatment as well as services and support for individuals and families; and

WHEREAS, this month is an opportunity to increase public awareness of severe mental illness and to promote the wellness of our diverse community members;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BRIAN SANDOVAL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim  July 2018 as

 Minority Mental Health Awareness Month In Nevada
