WHEREAS, mentoring is an important method for cultivating strong values and skill sets that empower young people to succeed in pursuing their dreams and realizing their full potential; and
WHEREAS, countless young people across the State of Nevada have benefited from positive examples, including teachers, coaches, ministers, social workers, and others, who invested their time and energy as mentors; and
WHEREAS, the significant impact that mentoring has in building stronger communities is reflected in Assembly Bill 144, which was passed and signed into law during the 2017 Legislative Session and which established a Statewide Mentoring Commission in order to promote and support mentoring-related initiatives in Nevada; and
WHEREAS, mentors help to open doors for young people in need of guidance and positive influences, particularly at-risk youth and those from under-served or marginalized communities, and this is an opportunity to raise awareness regarding the importance of connecting young people with caring adult mentors; and
WHEREAS, Nevada joins communities across the nation participating in mentorship-related events and initiatives throughout the month of January, recognizing the special role of mentors and their influence in building a brighter future;
