WHEREAS, Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy (LGMD) is considered a rare disease that is known to cause muscle weakness and wasting, with symptoms beginning in all stages of life from childhood to adulthood; and

WHEREAS, LGMD most commonly affects muscles closest to the body, specifically the muscles of the shoulders, upper arms, pelvic area, and thighs; and

WHEREAS, LGMD is a group of hereditary, genetic, neuromuscular disorders with over 25 sub-types currently identified, affecting all ethnic groups; and

WHEREAS, Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy is a progressive, serious and debilitating condition that has a significant impact on the lives of those affected; and individuals and families affected by LGMD often experience problems such as diagnosis delay, difficulty finding a medical expert, and lack of access to treatments or ancillary services; and

WHEREAS, Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy Awareness Day allows for patients, caregivers, medical professionals, researchers, and organizations to raise awareness and support for all those suffering from this disease;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BRIAN SANDOVAL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim  the month of September 30, 2018 as

 Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy Awareness Day in Nevada
