Proclamation Header

 

WHEREAS, the State of Nevada is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all those living in and visiting the Silver State; and

WHEREAS, house fires in the United States resulted in 2,735 civilian deaths, and fire departments responded to 352,000 home fires in 2016 according to the National Fire Protection Association; and

WHEREAS, all Nevadans are encouraged to create a map of their home, marking two exits from each room and a path to a safe location from each exit; and

WHEREAS, home fire drills should be practiced twice a year, both during the day and at night, to allow everyone to practice using different pre-designated exits; and

WHEREAS, Nevada’s first responders are dedicated to reducing the occurrence of home fires and home fire injuries through prevention and protection education; and

WHEREAS, home addresses should be clearly marked and easy for the fire department to find; and

WHEREAS, when leaving the home, all doors should be closed as you leave, as this may slow the spread of smoke, heat and fire; and

WHEREAS, once you get out of a burning building, stay outside; and

WHEREAS, the national 2018 Fire Prevention Week theme ‘Look. Listen. Learn. Be aware – fire can happen anywhere,’ reminds all Nevadans that personal steps must be taken to increase our safety from fire;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BRIAN SANDOVAL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim  the week of October 7 - 13, 2018 as

 Fire Prevention Week in Nevada
