WHEREAS, leaders and citizens of our nation are afforded the privilege of prayer, with the joy of seeking divine guidance, strength and comfort from Almighty God, and the 67th observance of the National Day of Prayer has the theme ‘Pray for America: Unity,’ based on Ephesians 4:3, ‘Making every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace;’ and

WHEREAS, a National Day of Prayer has been part of our country’s heritage since it was declared by the First Continental Congress in 1775, and the United States Congress in 1952 approved a Joint Resolution setting aside a day each year to pray in our nation; and

WHEREAS, the United States Congress, by Public Law 100-307, in 1988, as amended, affirms that it is essential for us as a nation to pray and directs the President of the United States to set aside and proclaim the first Thursday of May as an annual National Day of Prayer; and

WHEREAS, the Constitution of the State of Nevada guarantees the free exercise and enjoyment of religious profession and worship, without discrimination or preference, shall be forever allowed in the Silver State, and Nevadans from many walks of life, and with diverse religious backgrounds, continue to find strength, comfort, guidance and inspiration through prayer; and

WHEREAS, we recognize the love and power of God, we unite with fellow citizens to exercise the freedom we have to gather in prayer with thankfulness while seeking guidance, provision, protection and purpose for the benefit of every individual and the Silver State as a whole; and

WHEREAS, we thank God for those who defend our freedoms and ask for peace throughout our state, nation and world and join with Americans across the nation in a time of prayer;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BRIAN SANDOVAL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim  May 3, 2018 as

 Day of Prayer in Nevada
