Proclamation Header

 

WHEREAS, cancer affects thousands of children each year, and is the leading cause of death by disease among U.S. children between infancy and age 15, while 1 in 285 children in the U.S. will be diagnosed by their 20th birthday according to the American Childhood Cancer Organization; and

WHEREAS, each year nearly 16,000 of our nation's youth will be diagnosed with a form of cancer; and

WHEREAS, one in five of our nation's children loses their battle with cancer; and

WHEREAS, there are approximately 40,000 children in active treatment at any given time; and

WHEREAS, researchers and healthcare professionals work diligently, dedicating their expertise to treat and cure children with cancer; and

WHEREAS, during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, we take time to remember all those who have suffered from cancer and we look to spread awareness throughout the Silver State;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BRIAN SANDOVAL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim  September 2018 as

 Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in Nevada
