State of Nevada - A Proclamation by the Governor

 

WHEREAS, Steven D. Hill was born in Dayton, Ohio and attended Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology before moving to Las Vegas in 1987, where he became a successful businessman and a pillar of the Southern Nevada community; and

WHEREAS, in addition to growing a business, he has served his community and state as a valued member of many boards and commissions with the goal of improving the Silver State for all those who call Nevada home; and

WHEREAS, Steve was appointed director of the Governor's Office of Economic Development (GOED) in October 2011 and guided the development of 'Moving Nevada Forward,' the plan for diversifying Nevada's economy and he created numerous programs including the Knowledge Fund, Workforce Innovations for the New Nevada Fund, and Battle Born Venture Fund which will leave a lasting impression on higher education, workforce development and business incubation; and

WHEREAS, in the past six years, Steve has played an integral role in bringing businesses such as Tesla, Apple, Solar City, Barclaycard, Amazon and Hyperloop to Nevada and these businesses have, and will, create thousands of jobs and bolster the state's economy to benefit the generations to come; and

WHEREAS, he was appointed to serve as the Chairman of the Southern Nevada Tourism Infrastructure Committee which examined the critical needs of Nevada's tourism industry and outlined recommendations that resulted in legislation for a publicly owned stadium to be home to an NFL franchise as well as additional public safety resources for Southern Nevada and funding to expand and modernize the Las Vegas Convention Center; and

WHEREAS, under his direction, GOED ushered in Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and autonomous vehicles as economic development opportunities, and these industries can bring significant capital investment and job growth to the state; and

WHEREAS, Steve also serves as Chairman of the Clark County Stadium Authority and will continue, in his new role with the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, to help grow the economy for the benefit of all Nevadans; and

WHEREAS, the State of Nevada commends Steve Hill on his outstanding tenure as a dedicated public servant and member of the Nevada family and joins his family,friends, and colleagues in extending sincere appreciation for his contributions, with best wishes for success in his future endeavors;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BRIAN SANDOVAL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim January 19, 2018 as a day in honor of
