WHEREAS, it is estimated that 6.7 million people currently live with chronic wounds and that number is expected to grow at more than 2 percent annually for the next decade, fueled by an aging population and increasing rates of diseases and conditions such as diabetes, obesity and the late effects of radiation therapy; and

WHEREAS, the chronic wound epidemic represents a cost of more than $50 billion to the healthcare system; and

WHEREAS, more than 29.1 million people suffer from diabetes in the United States and approximately 2 million of those will develop a diabetic foot ulcer or other non-healing wound; and

WHEREAS, wound care physicians and health care providers offer compassionate and skilled treatment in caring for their patients, without which untreated chronic wounds could lead to diminished quality of life and potentially sever consequences and side effects; and

WHEREAS, the State of Nevada is committed to promoting the health and well-being of its citizens by raising awareness about the importance of advanced wound care, as well as the importance of taking preventative steps to avoid conditions that often result in chronic wounds;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BRIAN SANDOVAL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim  June 5 - 9, 2017 as

 Wound Care Awareness Week in Nevada
