WHEREAS, service to others is a hallmark of the Nevada spirit; and

WHEREAS, throughout our history citizens have stepped forward to meet challenges, engage in democratic processes, and meet needs of those around them through volunteering in their communities; and

WHEREAS, in 2015, 449,991 Nevadans showed their dedication to making a difference in Nevada's communities by volunteering more than 56.86 million hours; and

WHEREAS, community service organizations including nonprofits, faith and civic groups, veteran's organizations, municipalities, schools, and hospitals, thrive, in part, because they effectively engage volunteers toward a common cause; and

WHEREAS, the State of Nevada commends these community service organizations for recognizing the strength and effectiveness in allocating resources to engaging and supporting volunteers; and

WHEREAS, many businesses actively encourage their employees to give back by volunteering in their communities; and

WHEREASNational Volunteer Week is an opportunity to inspire, recognize and encourage volunteerism as a way Nevadans can engage in their community, and meet challenges collectively; and 

WHEREAS, volunteers are a vital resource to Nevada's future as a caring and productive state, and this dedication and service to our great state is a benefit to the Nevada family;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BRIAN SANDOVAL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim  April 23 - 29, 2017 as

 Volunteer Week in Nevada
