WHEREAS, subsurface safety awareness and initiatives that promote the importance of subsurface safety are critical to the development of a stable and reliable infrastructure in the State of Nevada; and
WHEREAS, each year the failure to comply with safe digging practices prescribed by the State jeopardizes lives and property and results in lost time and productivity; and
WHEREAS, Nevada has joined a nationwide effort to simplify the pmcess for requesting a dig ticket by calling 811, which can be made at no cost; and
WHEREAS, dialing 811 can help to avoid damages to under ground facilities, thereby reducing the loss of service to the public and the loss of time and money to contractors, utilities, and taxpayers; and
WHEREAS, legislation was introduced by the Governor's administration and signed into law during the 78th session on the Legislature that promotes subsurface safety and compliance, enhancing protections for the State's fiber optic infrastructure that remains critical for Nevada's continued growth and development; and
WHEREAS, the State of Nevada remains committed to promoting subsurface safety, and joins communities nationwide in encouraging citizens to take steps to help protect lives and property by complying with digging and subsurface safety rules and regulations;
