WHEREAS, there are still Americans Missing in Action and unaccounted for from World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Cold War and from Iraq and recent conflicts; and

WHEREAS, their families, friends and Americans across our nation still deal with uncertainty regarding their fates; and

WHEREASmore than 500,000 Americans, during their active military service, were forcibly detained or interned in the line of duty by an enemy government or its agents or a hostile force; and 

WHEREASon June 18, 1979, the first commemoration to honor American Prisoners of War and those Missing in Action was held at the National Cathedral Washington, D.C.; and 

WHEREAS, National POW/MIA Recognition Day has been designated as the third Friday of September with ceremonies held throughout the nation and around the world; and

WHEREAS, the State of Nevada honors those Americans who have been held as Prisoners of War and are committed to seeing that all those still Missing in Action, whenever possible, be accounted for and returned home to rest on American soil; and

WHEREAS, we will honor and remember the American heroes who selflessly served our country and recognize the families, friends and communities impacted by the loss of all POW/MIA Americans still missing;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BRIAN SANDOVAL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim  September 15, 2017 as

 POW/MIA RECOGNITION DAY IN NEVADA
