WHEREAS, the State of Nevada appreciates the work and commitment of its teachers and has relied upon their noble effort to educate past, present, and future generations of students; and

WHEREAS, National Board Certification was designed to develop, retain and recognize accomplished teachers and teaching, and to generate ongoing improvement in schools nationwide; and

WHEREAS, National Board Certification is a rigorous and demanding process, whereby teachers engage in planning, analyzing, and reflecting upon teaching practices to achieve National Board Certification; and

WHEREAS, 637N evada teachers have achieved National Board Certification, demonstrating their passion for students and a commitment to improve education, and these teachers represent 3 percent of all teachers in the State of Nevada; and

WHEREAS, Clark County has ranked second in the top districts in the country for a total of 600 candidates pursuing National Board Certification during the 2016-2017 certification cycle; and

WHEREAS, National Board Certification, recognized as the "gold standard" in teacher certification, represents higher standards for Nevada teachers and better learning for Nevada students;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BRIAN SANDOVAL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim  November 16, 2017 as

 National Board Certified Teacher Day in Nevada
