WHEREAS, massage therapy is beneficial to overall health, and is increasingly part of integrated health care, and 59 percent of adults who had a massage between 2016 - 2017 received it for medical or health reasons such as pain management, soreness, stiffness, spasms, injury rehabilitation and overall wellness; and

WHEREAS, physicians are prescribing massage to complement traditional medical treatment for illness, injury and pain, and massage therapy has become an important part of work-related stress relief and recovery from sports-related injuries; and

WHEREAS, therapeutic massage can benefit people of all ages, and a growing body of clinical research shows massage therapy is helpful for a variety of health issues as it can decrease or reduce Fibromyalgia, stress, back pain, muscle injury, pain in cancer patients and/or related fatigue, Arthritis, Osteoarthritis of the knee, post-operative pain, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, blood pressure, headache frequency, alcohol withdrawal symptoms, and boost the body’s immune system; and

WHEREAS, consumers are spending between $8 and $12 billion annually on massage therapy and it is estimated that there are 300,000 to 350,000 massage therapists and massage school students in the United States;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BRIAN SANDOVAL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim  the week of October 22 - 28, 2017 as

 Massage Therapy Awareness Week in Nevada
