WHEREAS, Gastroparesis is a chronic illness that affects more than five million people in the United States; and
WHEREAS, Gastroparesis is "paralysis of the stomach," which causes debilitating pain, nausea, vomiting, early satiety, and can lead to serious complications such as malnourishment, dehydration, extreme weight loss, and overwhelming fatigue; and
WHEREAS, there is little awareness, no known cure, and few effective treatment options or medications; and
WHEREAS, additional research will improve medications and treatment options, and offer better support and hope for the future; and
WHEREAS, Gastroparesis Awareness Week is an opportunity to educate the medical community and the public regarding the devastating effects of this disorder and promote awareness of the condition for the good of the public health;
