WHEREAS, the State of Nevada is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all those living in and visiting the Silver State; and

WHEREAS, house fires in the United States resulted in 2,685 civilian deaths, 13,000 civilian injuries and more than $10 billion in property damage in 2015 according to the National Fire Protection Association; and

WHEREAS, all Nevadans are encouraged to create a map of their home, marking two exits from each room and a path to a safe location from each exit; and

WHEREAS, home fire drills should be practiced twice a year, both during the day and at night, to allow everyone to practice using different pre-designated exits; and

WHEREAS, children should be taught how to escape on their own, in case an adult cannot assist them; and

WHEREAS, home addresses should be clearly marked and easy for department to find; and

WHEREAS, when leaving the home, all doors should be closed as you leave, as this may slow the spread of smoke, heat; and

WHEREAS, once you get out of a burning building, stay outside; and

WHEREAS, the national 2017 Fire Prevention Week theme 'Every Second Counts: Plan Two Ways Out,' reminds all Nevadans that in afire, each second counts;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BRIAN SANDOVAL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim  the week of October 8 - 14, 2017 as

 Fire Prevention Week in Nevada
