WHEREAS, the Council of State Governments was founded in 1933 as an organization providing resources for various branches of state government in an effort to promote sound public policy; and

WHEREAS, the Council of State Governments Justice Center exists to provide non-partisan research and policy support for state and local governments in order to improve outcomes across the criminal justice system; and

WHEREAS, the State of Nevada continues to pursue strategic objectives related to reducing recidivism and promoting resources and services that are essential for individuals formerly in the criminal justice system who are taking steps to succeed upon re-entering their communities; and

WHEREAS, multiple pieces of legislation addressing recidivism and criminal justice reform were approved by the Legislature and signed into law during the 2017 Legislative Session, including Assembly Bill 4 72 , a bill developed by a state taskforce led by Nevada's First Lady in collaboration with the Council of State Governments Justice Center that establishes policies for reducing recidivism for youth in the juvenile justice system; and

WHEREAS, the Council of State Governments Justice Center has launched the "Face to Face Initiative" as a national call to action encouraging policymakers to personally engage with the people who are closest to the correctional system; and

WHEREAS, the State of Nevada proudly joins other states in supporting the "Face to Face Initiative" and its purpose as a state-led effort to highlight important issues related to reducing recidivism improving outcomes in the criminal justice system, and building safer and stronger communities;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BRIAN SANDOVAL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim  August 14 - 20, 2017 as

 Face to Face Week in Nevada
